The official Greek news agency reported that forces are continuing to work non-stop to prevent new flare-ups.
During the night and early morning (August 5, 2026), fire crews worked at three main locations where the fire was still burning, and four firefighting helicopters returned to action in the area after the crash disaster last week.
According to the latest estimate by the European Copernicus satellite service, based on satellite imagery from August 4, the extent of the area burned has reached more than 144,000 dunams.
At the same time, the authorities issued a warning of an especially high fire danger for today in Attica, Evia, Chios and Lesbos, and declared a state of maximum alert ("Code Red"). The declaration means the full mobilization of the civil defense, the deployment of additional forces and resources, and immediate preparation to deal with new fires. In addition, initial steps will be taken to restore the affected areas and provide assistance to residents.
