The airport said the work involved 14 construction and technological projects, alongside three investment projects carried out by external partners. Aircraft are expected to return to the main runway on Friday afternoon, August 14.
The modernization began on March 30, with aircraft operations temporarily shifted to Prague Airport's secondary runway, 12/30. The airport said the works were necessary to maintain the main runway in line with regulatory standards while improving operational safety and reliability.
The project included extensive infrastructure upgrades around the runway. Previous airport information said the work included replacing hundreds of runway lights, installing new cable routes and expanding paved areas, among other improvements.
The return of aircraft to runway 06/24 is also significant for residents around Prague and the Central Bohemian Region. During the closure, flights were routed through runway 12/30, changing flight paths over more densely populated areas. The reopening should bring those temporary changes to an end.
Prague Airport's main runway is the longer of its two operational runways and normally handles a substantial share of airport traffic. With the modernization now completed, the airport can resume normal use of the runway while benefiting from the upgraded infrastructure.
The project forms part of Prague Airport's broader infrastructure development plans as it prepares for future growth in passenger and aircraft traffic.
