Frankfurt Airport. Photo: Amit Cotler Some 6.2 million passengers passed through Frankfurt Airport in July 2026, an increase of 1.4% compared to July last year, according to Fraport data. The increase was recorded despite a significant decrease in the number of flights, with the number of takeoffs and landings totaling 41,286 - a decrease of 3.2% compared to the same period last year.
Fraport explains that the decrease in the number of flights was due to a significant reduction in capacity by airlines. However, higher occupancy rates and the use of larger aircraft allowed the airport to increase passenger numbers.
During July, demand for vacation destinations in Southern Europe was particularly high, led by Italy, Spain, Greece and Croatia. Long-haul flights also saw an increase in passenger traffic to Israel, China and Brazil, alongside demand for destinations in Africa, including Kenya and South Africa.
Cargo activity in Frankfurt also strengthened: air cargo and mail transportation increased by 0.9% and amounted to 180,622 tons.
Growth was also evident at the international airports operated by Fraport. In total, the company's 14 airports in Greece recorded 6.9 million passengers in July, up 5.4% from July 2025. Ljubljana Airport saw a jump of 14.9%, while the two airports in Bulgaria, Burgas and Varna, recorded a combined 871,000 passengers, up 5.2%.
In total, approximately 23.4 million passengers passed through all airports actively managed by Fraport in July, an increase of 2.2% compared to July last year.
