Birmingham Airport. Photo: Ceri Breeze / Shutterstock Birmingham Airport handled 1,487,899 passengers in July 2026, making it the busiest July in the airport’s history. Passenger numbers were 2% higher than the previous July record, as the start of the school holidays drove strong summer demand.
The latest figures mark the fourth consecutive record month for the airport as travelers from the region continue to choose Birmingham for their summer trips.
Dublin was the most popular destination from Birmingham in July, attracting passengers traveling for business, leisure and family visits.
Several Spanish destinations also ranked among the busiest routes, with Palma, Alicante and Malaga benefiting from travelers seeking Mediterranean sunshine and summer holidays.
Low-cost services recorded particularly strong growth. Passenger numbers using low-cost airlines increased by 11% compared with July 2025, highlighting continued demand for more affordable flights during the busy summer travel period.
The busy month also brought several developments inside the terminal.
Two new Aspire Lounges opened at Birmingham Airport in July, giving passengers additional premium facilities during the peak summer period.
The airport also marked easyJet’s 10 millionth passenger through BHX, while a separate initiative gave care-experienced young adults an opportunity to see behind the scenes at the airport and learn more about potential careers in aviation.
Matt Hazelwood, Chief Commercial Officer of Birmingham Airport, described July as another strong month for BHX, saying that welcoming more than 1.4 million passengers demonstrated the strength of demand across the region.
He also highlighted the airport’s efforts to offer travelers more choice and improve the passenger experience as new destinations continue to be added.
With the peak summer season now underway and additional route launches planned for later in 2026, Birmingham Airport expects passenger numbers to continue growing.
The July milestone further strengthens BHX's position as an important gateway for travelers from the Midlands, with strong demand for both European leisure destinations and low-cost travel helping drive the latest record.
