Dubai continues to invest in the experience that begins right after landing. As part of its efforts to improve public spaces and the visitor experience in the emirate, Uber, in collaboration with Dubai Airports, is inaugurating a dedicated waiting area for passengers at Terminal 3 of Dubai International Airport (DXB).

The new complex is a fully air-conditioned space, designed for passengers using the Uber and Careem apps and waiting to be picked up in the vehicle area of Terminal 3.

The goal is to create a more organized and convenient process from the moment the passenger leaves the landing hall until boarding the vehicle, a particularly significant point in Dubai, where summer weather conditions make a long wait in the open less comfortable.

The move is part of a broader effort by Dubai Airports to upgrade the arrivals area at Terminal 3 and create a more comfortable, intuitive and inviting environment for the millions of passengers arriving in the city. Dubai Airports recently announced that a series of improvements have been implemented in the terminal's arrivals area following feedback from passengers, as part of its drive to improve the experience of entering Dubai.

Both Uber and Careem already operate in Terminal 3

Both travel apps are part of the airport's existing transportation system. The official Dubai Airports website currently lists Uber and Careem as transportation services available in the Terminal 3 landing area, along with their operations in Terminal 1.

For Uber users, the app directs passengers to the appropriate pickup point after booking a ride, with the pickup location subject to change depending on the terminal and operational conditions at the airport.

Uber's relationship with Dubai Airport is not new. In 2023, the company announced a collaboration with Dubai Airports to increase the capacity of pick-up areas in the terminals and improve orientation within the airport, including expanding the number of designated pick-up locations.

Part of the Vision to Improve Space in Dubai

The opening of the new waiting area also connects to the broader goals of the Dubai Civility Committee, established to promote, among other things, the quality of urban space, visual appearance, and the experience of using public spaces throughout the emirate.

The official announcement of the committee's establishment stated that its functions include improving the appearance of the urban environment and strengthening Dubai's visual identity in line with the emirate's urban planning.

At the airport, this means not only design and aesthetics but also better management of passenger flow, reducing congestion and improving comfort at the points of intersection between the terminal and ground transportation.

The upgrade at Terminal 3 illustrates a trend that is becoming more significant at leading airports around the world: the passenger experience does not end with passport control and baggage claim.

The path to the taxi, rental car, or app-based transportation services has become an integral part of the experience of arriving at your destination.
