American Airlines ' largest hub at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is supporting around $70 billion in annual economic output and 350,000 jobs across North Texas, according to a new analysis from the Texas Christian University Center for Supply Chain Innovation in the Neeley School of Business.

69 Million Passengers, 230 Destinations, 30 Countries

The study highlights the significant economic role of American's extensive DFW network, finding that the airline's connectivity enables a level of air service far beyond what local demand alone could sustain. The network helps North Texas businesses reach customers, access global markets, attract talent and compete internationally.

American employs more than 37,000 people in the region and serves more than 69 million passengers annually from its DFW hub. Its network provides access to 230 destinations in 30 countries, while the airline serves 23 airports across Texas, more than any other commercial carrier.

American also accounts for approximately 82% of DFW's commercial passenger traffic, underscoring the scale of its presence at the airport.

"For decades, North Texas has grown alongside our DFW hub, and this study demonstrates just how deeply interconnected our shared success has become," American CEO Robert Isom said.

Air Connectivity Drives Business Growth

According to the analysis, America's connectivity also strengthens the region's ability to attract corporate headquarters, major investments and high-value jobs.

Dallas-Fort Worth has attracted more than 100 headquarters relocations since 2018, leading all US metropolitan areas during that period. The study concludes that the region's extensive air network provides an important competitive advantage for companies deciding where to locate or expand.

North Texas has undergone significant population growth over the past five decades, increasing from roughly 2.4 million residents to more than 8.5 million today.

American and DFW Plan Major Expansion

The economic impact of the hub could increase further as American and DFW move ahead with major infrastructure investments.

The airline and airport recently announced plans for a nearly $4 billion expansion of Terminal F, which will double the number of planned gates, expand international facilities and add capacity for future growth.

Additional infrastructure improvements are also planned for Terminals A and C.
