Drivers traveling through the Birmingham and Solihull area this weekend should prepare for delays as a section of the M6 will close in both directions for HS2 construction work.
Birmingham Airport has warned passengers planning to travel to and from the airport this weekend to consider the National Highways West Midlands' latest update.

The closure will also include the M42 Junction 7A link to the southbound M6.
The disruption is linked to the construction of the M6 South Viaduct in Solihull. Traffic management is required to allow workers to continue sliding the west deck of the viaduct across the motorway.
Travelers Must Allow Additional Time for Journeys
A fully signed diversion route will be in place throughout the closure, but motorists have been advised to allow additional time for their journeys. Travelers heading to or from Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area, including those making their way to airports, railway stations or other transport connections, could be affected by longer road journeys over the weekend.
HS2 said some low-level noise from the worksite is also expected during the closure. The works are subject to consent and form part of the ongoing construction of the HS2 railway project.
