Lufthansa is expanding its onboard food and beverage offering, giving passengers more opportunities to personalize their meals before they travel. From September 2026, the airline will introduce five new hot meals for Economy Class passengers on eligible short and medium-haul flights, while also expanding its pre-selection service for Business Class travelers on long-haul routes.
The new Economy Class options will be available through Lufthansa's Onboard Delights program from September 1, 2026. The service, which was introduced in February 2023, allows passengers on short and medium-haul flights to purchase fresh meals, snacks and drinks, with selected items available for pre-order before departure.
The five new hot meals will be offered exclusively through pre-order on continental flights lasting at least two hours. Passengers will be able to select their meal from four weeks until 24 hours before departure.
The new menu includes beef roulade with potato dumplings, chicken teriyaki, tortellini in tomato sauce with zucchini, “Die Echte” currywurst from Dönninghaus, and a cheeseburger from HANS IM GLÜCK.

Lufthansa says the pre-order system is designed to give passengers greater choice while ensuring that their preferred meal is available when they board. The airline has continued to expand Onboard Delights since its launch as part of efforts to offer more flexibility in Economy Class.
More Choices for Business Class Passengers
Lufthansa is also expanding its meal pre-selection service for Business Class passengers traveling on long-haul flights.
Since August 2023, Business Class customers departing from Frankfurt and Munich have been able to choose their main course before departure. From September 1, this service will be extended to most long-haul flights returning to Germany.
The selection will also become significantly larger. Passengers will be able to choose from six main courses instead of three, giving travelers more flexibility when deciding what they want to eat during their flight.
As with the Economy Class service, passengers can make their selection between four weeks and 24 hours before departure.
Lufthansa says the expanded pre-selection program is intended to provide passengers with a more predictable and personalized onboard experience, while allowing them to make meal choices before arriving at the airport.
The changes form part of the airline's broader efforts to give passengers more control over their travel experience across different cabin classes. For Economy Class travelers, the expansion focuses on additional hot meal choices on longer continental flights, while Business Class passengers will gain access to a wider selection of pre-selected main courses on eligible long-haul services.
With both services expanding from September, passengers flying Lufthansa will have more opportunities to decide what they want to eat before they even board their aircraft.
