Photo: Fraport Greece Fraport Greece, the company that operates 14 regional airports in Greece, has announced it will carry out comprehensive rehabilitation and runway upgrade work at three major airports in the coming months: Corfu, Mytilene (Lesvos), and Mykonos.
At Corfu Airport (CFU), the runway will be closed completely from January 20 to 28, 2027. At Mytilene (MJT), the runway will be closed for 24 hours every Tuesday, from November 17, 2026 to March 23, 2027. At Mykonos (JMK), the runway will be closed every Thursday, from November 19, 2026 to March 18, 2027.
On several dates, mainly around the end of the calendar year and Christmas, the weekly shutdown will not take place: December 23, 24, and 31, 2026, as well as January 6 and 7, 2027.
According to a statement from Fraport Greece, the works include a full rehabilitation of the runways, along with upgrades to the safety areas and adaptations to the runway strips and safety areas at their ends (RESA). The project aims to continue improving safety and operations at the airports.
During the shutdowns, emergency helicopter flights will be allowed to operate as usual, including medical evacuation, search and rescue, firefighting, and humanitarian and government flights.
