New Air Link Will Connect Cairo and Sydney via Singapore From 2027

Egypt's flag carrier, which became FC Barcelona's Global Partner through the 2028/29 season at the end of August, EGYPTAIR, is set to become the newest airline at Sydney Airport, with plans to launch a new service connecting Cairo, Singapore and Sydney from 2027.

The proposed route, which would create a new air link between Australia and Egypt, will provide a major boost to connectivity between Australia, Southeast Asia and Africa. Subject to regulatory approvals, the service will open easier travel options for passengers traveling between the regions.

Egypt is currently Sydney Airport's largest unserved African market for Australian travelers, making the planned service an important addition to the airport's international network.

For passengers, the new route will provide access to Cairo, one of the world's most historically and culturally significant cities. Beyond the Egyptian capital, travelers will also be able to connect through EGYPTAIR's network to destinations across Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

EGYPTAIR Becomes Sydney Airport's 54th Airline

The arrival of EGYPTAIR will increase the number of airlines serving Sydney Airport to a record 54, reinforcing the airport's position as Australia's leading international gateway.

The new service also has an important community dimension. New South Wales is home to Australia's largest Egyptian community, with more than 21,000 people, creating an important market for visiting friends and relatives as well as tourism and business travel.

Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton described the announcement as a major development for the airport's international network.

“This is a major milestone for our international network, delivering greater choice for passengers and unlocking new opportunities for tourism, trade and cultural links between Australia, Egypt and the broader region,” Charlton said.

EGYPTAIR Chairman and CEO Captain Ahmed Adel: “The new service will make travel between our regions easier and support growing demand for tourism, business, education and visiting friends and relatives,” Adel said.

The route was announced at the El Alamein Air Show, highlighting the growing importance of international aviation links to Egypt's tourism industry.

While the planned 2027 launch represents a significant expansion of Sydney Airport's international network, several details have yet to be confirmed.

Sydney Airport and EGYPTAIR said further information, including the flight schedule, aircraft type and ticket sales, will be announced closer to the launch.

If approved and launched as planned, the new connection will strengthen Sydney's links with both Egypt and the wider African continent while giving Australian travelers another option for reaching Cairo and onward destinations.
