Major Expansion: Global Hospitality Veteran to Open 3 New Hotels Across New Zealand

Marriott International is expanding its presence in New Zealand with three new hotels planned in partnership with CP Group, bringing the Marriott Hotels and Autograph Collection brands to the country for the first time.

The agreements are expected to add 335 rooms to Marriott’s New Zealand portfolio across Rotorua, Auckland and Wellington, with the three properties scheduled to open between 2027 and 2029.

The expansion will mark Marriott Hotels’ debut in Rotorua, while Autograph Collection will enter both Auckland and Wellington. The projects build on Marriott’s relationship with CP Group, which is also developing the St. Regis Queenstown project.

The first of the three properties will be Rotorua Marriott Hotel, which is expected to open in late 2027 following a comprehensive 12-month renovation of the existing Arawa Park Hotel Rotorua.

Located on Fenton Street in central Rotorua, the hotel will have a new Marriott identity while retaining its position close to the city’s geothermal attractions, Māori cultural experiences and outdoor activities.

In Auckland, The Official Auckland, Autograph Collection is expected to open in 2028 with 82 rooms. The project will transform a historic building on Eden Crescent in the city’s central business district into a design-focused boutique hotel.

The third project is Fable Wellington, Autograph Collection, which is scheduled to open in 2029. The 118-room hotel will occupy a historic 1940s office building at the corner of Lambton Quay and Stout Street.

Both the Auckland and Wellington properties will involve the conversion of existing historic buildings, adding new hotel accommodation while preserving elements of their original character.

The three developments will strengthen Marriott’s presence across New Zealand’s North Island. The company currently operates two hotels in the country, JW Marriott Auckland and Four Points by Sheraton Auckland. Sheraton Christchurch and Moxy Auckland are also expected to open in 2027.
