The low-cost airline’s cabin baggage rules state that the popular neck pillows many cannot fly with are not among the items passengers can take on board separately for free. Instead, a neck pillow must fit inside the passenger’s permitted cabin bag. If it does not, it may be treated as an additional item and could be subject to excess or oversized baggage charges.
The rule is particularly relevant for passengers traveling on Wizz Air’s basic fare, which includes one free carry-on bag measuring up to 40 x 30 x 20cm and weighing up to 10kg. The bag must fit underneath the seat in front of the passenger.
Passengers who have purchased WIZZ Priority are allowed to take an additional trolley bag measuring up to 55 x 40 x 23cm, also with a maximum weight of 10kg.
Photo: ShutterstockWizz Air specifically lists several items that passengers can bring on board without paying an additional fee. These include a coat or blanket, a mobile phone, reading material and duty-free purchases made after security.
Special provisions also apply to passengers traveling with infants and to passengers who need crutches.
A neck pillow, however, is not included on that list. Wizz Air says it must be packed inside the applicable cabin baggage allowance.
That means a passenger wearing a neck pillow around the airport should not assume that it automatically qualifies as a free personal item.
If staff determine that the pillow is an additional piece of baggage and it cannot fit within the permitted allowance, an additional charge may apply.

Videos shared online have shown people removing the filling from hollow travel pillows and replacing it with clothes. Other packing hacks involve rolling garments tightly and wearing them around the neck as though they were part of a travel pillow.
The trend has attracted attention because passengers are looking for ways to make the most of strict low-cost airline baggage allowances.
The safest option for travelers who want to use a neck pillow is therefore to pack it inside their permitted cabin bag before reaching the gate or pack an inflatable pillow instead.
Wizz Air also warns that exceeding the permitted baggage dimensions can result in additional fees. Passengers can purchase extra baggage in advance, while airport purchases cost more.
For Ryanair and easyJet, neck pillows sit in a legal loophole, as their lowest-tier tickets technically allow only one small personal item (like a backpack) that must fit under the seat.
Officially, everything not worn as clothing must fit inside that bag. In most cases, however, gate agents will let you board for free if you wear the pillow around your neck. However, if the flight is entirely full or the gate agent is strict, they have the right to ask you to stuff the pillow into your bag. If your bag is already packed tight and won't close, you could face an oversized bag fee.
Major traditional airlines like Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, or KLM, will usually ignore a neck pillow, allowing you to wear it freely, which means it will not count against your carry-on or personal item allowance.
