Fun Weekend: Popular European City Hosts Harvest Days With Local Food and Traditions

Cluj-Napoca is celebrating the arrival of autumn with a three-day Harvest Days event, bringing farmers, food producers, craftspeople and performers together in the heart of the city.

The event, known as “Harvest Days,” takes place from September 18 to 20 on the grounds of the Horia Demian Sports Hall. 

From 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day, visitors can browse stalls filled with seasonal fruit and vegetables, traditional foods and products made by local producers.

The market includes cheeses and other dairy products, meat products, honey and other beekeeping products, jams, syrups, bread, pastries and other foods prepared according to traditional or family recipes.

The event also gives visitors the chance to meet the people behind the products and buy directly from local farmers and producers.

“Harvest Days are about the people who work to ensure that authentic, quality products reach consumers directly,” said Alin Tișe, president of the Cluj County Council. He added that the event is intended to support local producers, encourage the consumption of seasonal products and give residents the opportunity to buy directly from producers.

Traditional Crafts and Romanian Food

Food is only part of the event. Traditional craftspeople will also have stalls featuring handmade objects and products connected to crafts and traditions passed down through generations.

A dedicated food area, called the “Gourmet Zone,” will serve freshly prepared dishes throughout the three-day event.

The program also includes Romanian folk performances, with established singers and folk groups appearing alongside younger performers and local artists. An amusement park will be set up for both children and adults, with attractions for different age groups.

For visitors interested in experiencing a more traditional side of Cluj-Napoca, the event offers an opportunity to sample regional foods and see local crafts in one location.

Cluj-Napoca itself is one of Transylvania’s main urban destinations, combining a historic center with a lively café, restaurant and cultural scene.
