Earthquake Strikes Near Beautiful Geek Island, Tremors Felt Near Athens

At approximately 09:40 this morning (September 18, 2026), an earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale was felt near ​​the island of Skiathos. The epicenter was approximately 27 km southwest of the island, near the Evia area.

According to the Faculty of Geology at the University of Athens, the earthquake was also felt in the central Attica region of Greece, near Athens, although with less intensity.

Following the earthquake, several additional aftershocks were recorded, with intensities ranging from 1.8 to 2.9. No damage or casualties were reported.

Due to the convergence of tectonic plates in the region of Greece, it is known as one of the most earthquake-prone countries in Europe and the Middle East. Most of them occur deep under the sea and do not cause damage, but sometimes they are well felt.
