Calgary. Photo: Shutterstock Athens International Airport and Calgary International Airport have signed a five-year partnership aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two aviation gateways and exploring new opportunities for passenger and cargo connectivity.

Under the agreement, Athens and Calgary will share expertise, promote their respective destinations and look at opportunities to strengthen links between the two airports.
One of the longer-term possibilities mentioned in the agreement is a future nonstop connection between Athens and Calgary.

For passengers, such a service would create a direct link between Greece and Alberta, while also potentially opening another option for travel between Southern Europe and Western Canada.
The partnership will also cover cargo connectivity, giving the two airports an opportunity to examine cooperation beyond passenger travel.
Athens Airport described the agreement as a way of bringing the two communities closer together, with both sides expected to work on areas where their expertise and networks can complement each other.
The announcement comes as airports increasingly use international partnerships to exchange operational knowledge, promote destinations and examine potential new connectivity.
