The State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, warned of a notable shift from the recent warm conditions, with temperatures dropping and an increased risk of locally heavy showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could also produce hail.
AEMET forecasts show notable falls in maximum temperatures in several areas, while showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop during the second half of the day. In the Sierra de Gredos, for example, AEMET says showers could become locally heavy and be accompanied by hail.
The agency is also forecasting a similar pattern across other parts of the country. In the Ibérica Aragonesa, showers are expected during the second half of Monday, with some potentially becoming locally strong toward the end of the day.
Extremadura is among the areas highlighted for particular concern. AEMET's warning comes with the possibility of very heavy rainfall capable of producing localized flooding, making the situation especially important for people traveling or spending time outdoors.
The change follows a period of unusually warm weather for late September. AEMET spokesman Rubén del Campo said instability would increase during the week, bringing locally heavy rain and showers to broad areas of the Iberian Peninsula.
For travelers, the change could mean very different conditions within a short period, particularly in areas where temperatures have remained high in recent days. Sudden thunderstorms may also bring difficult driving conditions, reduced visibility and localized flooding.
AEMET's forecasts indicate that the weather will not change uniformly across Spain. Some areas will see showers and storms, while others will mainly experience falling temperatures and increased cloud cover.
The agency's official warning system continues to provide updates on the areas and severity of weather hazards as the situation develops.
