A new official announcement from airport management stated that the alert has ended, normal operations have resumed, and all services have fully resumed.
It was also reported that the airspace sectors have returned to activity, and all restrictions previously imposed following the emission of volcanic ash were immediately lifted.
This is a significant development after several days of severe disruptions at the airport, during which takeoffs and landings were suspended because of Etna's activity and volcanic ash in the atmosphere.
As we reported over the weekend, the event began on September 26th and led to a series of shutdown extensions.
An announcement issued yesterday, September 28, at 08:00 stated that all flight activity would remain suspended until 23:59 that evening. Now, with the lifting of the alert status, activity is returning to normal.
