American Airlines has opened applications for its 2027 flight attendant trainee classes, beginning the search for new cabin crew members who will start training during the first half of next year.
Different Interview Process
The airline currently has more than 30,000 flight attendants working across its network and plans to add new trainees as it prepares for its 2027 classes.
Applications are open through mid-October, with candidates able to apply through American Airlines’ dedicated flight attendant recruitment website.
American said it has changed its flight attendant interview process this year to give applicants a clearer picture of the job before they commit to the recruitment process. The airline said candidates will receive more information about the different stages of the selection process and what will be expected of them.
“Like any career, it will be challenging at times. It's not a role for everyone. It requires perseverance and commitment, but it’s also a career where you can make a real difference,” said Bobbi Wells, American’s vice president of inflight.
A More Realistic Understanding
The airline describes flight attendants primarily as safety professionals, with customer service forming another major part of the job. Candidates are expected to demonstrate that they can meet safety requirements while also handling customer needs and difficult situations during flights.
American said the updated approach is intended to give applicants a realistic understanding of the job, including its demands and rewards, before they join the airline.
The company also recently changed aspects of its onboarding and graduation experience for new flight attendants. It said the latest recruitment changes are designed to give candidates more information and help them decide whether the career is the right fit.
American’s Chief People Officer Cole Brown said the airline wants its recruitment process to reflect the level of hospitality and service expected from its employees.
The 2027 trainees will begin their flight attendant careers after completing American’s training and qualification requirements. The airline has not said how many new flight attendants it plans to hire for the upcoming classes.
