Singapore will introduce temporary road closures in the Teck Whye area as the city hosts the Nine Emperor Gods Festival from October 9 to 18, 2026.

Temporary Traffic Restrictions

According to the Singapore Police Force, Teck Whye Lane, between Teck Whye Avenue and lamp post 17, will be closed to vehicles during two evening periods.

The first closure will take place on Friday, October 9, from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The same section will close again on Sunday, October 18, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Only authorised vehicles, police vehicles and emergency vehicles will be allowed through the affected section during the closures. Auxiliary police officers will be deployed to assist motorists and direct traffic.

Parking restrictions will also be strictly enforced. Vehicles that are illegally parked or obstruct traffic may be towed, police said.

Temple Rites, Vegetarian Observances. and Processions

The Taoist festival takes place during the first nine days of the ninth lunar month. It features religious processions, vegetarian observances and send-off rites at temples, with welcoming ceremonies held on the eve of the festival and the gods traditionally sent off on the final night.

The Nine Emperor Gods Festival is observed at temples and religious sites around Singapore, including areas around Chinatown and Chin Swee. Visitors can watch processions from public areas but are advised to dress modestly and keep clear of the religious activities.

The festival also coincides with the final days of Singapore’s Mid-Autumn celebrations, with the Chinatown light-up scheduled to continue through October 20.

For travelers visiting Singapore during the festival, the temporary closures are limited to specific evening periods, but visitors heading to Teck Whye on October 9 or 18 should allow extra time for local traffic and follow directions from police officers on site.
