Travelers planning to travel through Brussels today, Friday, October 9, should prepare for disruptions at the airport and in the city's public transportation, following a national strike expected in Belgium.

Brussels Airport has announced that some employees of ground handling company Alyzia are expected to participate in the strike. According to the airport's latest information, more than half of the flights handled by the company are expected to operate as planned, but several flights have already been canceled.

Airlines using Alyzia services have already contacted affected passengers and updated them on flight status and options. The airport emphasizes that cancellations will appear on the website flight schedule only after the airline officially enters them.

However, according to current information, no impact is expected on flights handled by the ground handling company Aviapartner. The airport recommends that passengers check their flight status in advance and contact the airline directly for updates.

The disruptions will not end at the airport. Brussels' public transport operator, STIB-MIVB, today published an initial forecast for the strike, warning of widespread disruption to metro, tram and bus operations.

According to the current forecast, only metro lines 1 and 5 are expected to operate. Tram lines 4, 7, 8, 10, 82, and 92 are expected to operate, and a limited number of bus lines are expected to operate.

The lines that will operate are also expected to have lower frequencies than usual, and the Noctis night lines will not be operated at all. The company emphasizes that the final list can only be confirmed on Friday morning, depending on the actual employee situation.

The airport recommends checking flight status before arrival, while STIB-MIVB recommends passengers explore alternatives and stay updated in real time on the app, website, and social media.
