The fall holidays in Berlin and Brandenburg are approaching, and the German capital's international airport is preparing for a massive wave of passengers: between October 16 and November 1, 2026, approximately 1.4 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport, a figure identical to last year's record numbers.
The first weekend of the holiday (October 16-18) is expected to be the busiest, with approximately 280,000 passengers in total. The peak day of the period will be Friday, October 16, during which approximately 100,000 passengers will pass through the airport in one day.
Top Destinations: Turkey and Spain
During the autumn holidays, BER will operate flights to 139 destinations in 54 countries. As every year, sunny destinations around the Mediterranean basin lead the demand. Antalya in Turkey ranks as the most popular destination among travelers, followed by Mallorca in Spain, which continues to maintain its place at the top of the preferences of residents of the Berlin-Brandenburg region.
Berlin Airport is publishing a number of recommendations for passengers during the expected busy days.
A. Advanced and fast security screening: State-of-the-art CT scanners are in use in security screening areas 1 and 5 in Terminal 1, and in the screening area in Terminal 2. In these areas, liquids and electronic devices do not need to be removed from the bag. Liquids are permitted in containers of up to 2 liters (unlike in the central area of Terminal 1, where the 100 ml limit still applies).
B. European EES: Due to the implementation of the new European Entry/Exit System, non-EU travelers may experience longer wait times at passport control. It is recommended to register in advance at the self-service kiosks before arriving at passport control.
C. Self-service stations: Over 120 independent stations scattered throughout the terminals for passengers of 23 different airlines, allowing for printing baggage tags and sending luggage independently without waiting in line.
D. Prohibition of rechargeable batteries in checked baggage: The port administration reminds that backup batteries (Power banks) and electronic cigarettes are completely prohibited in checked baggage, and must be carried in a backpack/handbag only.
E. Services for families and people living with disabilities: In Terminal 1 (Checkpoint 5), there is a "Family Entrance" designated for families with children up to the age of 5.
F. Transportation: Passengers arriving by public transportation are invited to stay updated in real time on changes to the schedules of the VBB and VIZ public transportation networks.
