A five-day strike notice covering pilots and cabin crew subject to French labor law could disrupt air travel between October 17 and 21, 2026, with possible cancelations, delays, and reduced flight schedules. The period coincides with the first weekend of the autumn school holidays in France.

The notice, filed by a group of aviation unions including SNPL, UNSA PNC, SNPNC-FO, SNGAF and UNAC, runs from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, October 21, Paris time.

The unions are protesting a proposed reform affecting the combination of employment and retirement benefits. They want flight crew excluded from the reform and are calling for their specific supplementary pension scheme, known as CRPN, to remain outside its scope.

At this stage, the notice does not mean that all flights will be canceled. The scale of any disruption will depend on how many pilots and cabin crew participate, as well as airlines' operational plans and any applicable minimum-service requirements.

Which Flights Could Be Affected?

Flights departing from or arriving in France and operated by airlines and crews subject to French labor law are the main concern. Routes with limited options for replacing affected crews could also face operational challenges.

Possible consequences include selected flight cancellations, significant delays, changes to crew assignments, and reduced service on some routes. Passengers traveling through French airports during the five-day period may also face longer queues or itinerary changes if airlines adjust schedules.

The strike notice itself does not establish which airlines or individual flights will be affected. Travelers should therefore avoid assuming that a particular flight will operate normally or be canceled until their airline provides an update.

What Should Passengers Do?

Travelers with bookings between October 17 and 21 should monitor their airline's website and app, as well as any notifications sent by email or SMS. Flight status should be checked both the day before departure and on the day of travel.

Passengers connecting between flights should allow extra time where possible, particularly if their itinerary involves separate tickets. They should also review their ticket conditions to understand the options available if a flight is changed or canceled.

If a disruption occurs, travelers should follow the airline's instructions regarding rebooking or refunds and keep relevant notifications and receipts. Any additional rights will depend on the circumstances of the disruption and the rules applicable to the journey.

The unions' notice covers five days, but the practical effect remains uncertain until airlines and unions provide further details. For now, passengers planning travel involving France during the period should keep their bookings under review and check for updates as October 17 approaches.
