ITA Airways will launch a new nonstop service between Rome Fiumicino and Caracas on March 30, 2027, restoring a direct air link between Italy and Venezuela. The route will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, using an Airbus A330-900.
Announced on October 13, the new service is intended to strengthen travel and economic ties between the two countries, while providing additional connections for Italian businesses and the large Italian and Italian-descendant community in Venezuela.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on October 13 by ITA Airways CEO and General Manager Joerg Eberhart and Venezuela’s ambassador to Italy, María Elena Uzzo Giannattasio.
Eberhart said the route would serve a purpose beyond commercial air travel, helping bring families, communities and businesses closer together while renewing historic ties between Italy and Venezuela.
“Rome and Caracas are once again connected by a direct flight: a service that goes beyond its commercial dimension, bringing people, families and businesses closer together and renewing the historic bond between Italy and Venezuela.
With this route, ITA Airways is placing its connectivity at the service of relations between the two countries and of the many Italian communities that have been part of Venezuela’s economic and social fabric for generations,” said Eberhart.
The ambassador described the agreement as a strategic opportunity to strengthen connections between the countries and support tourism, trade and cultural exchanges.
ITA Airways’ new service will restore the Rome–Caracas connection previously operated by its predecessor, Alitalia. The former Italian flag carrier suspended the route in April 2015 after facing difficulties repatriating revenue from Venezuela due to the country’s currency controls. Alitalia had also temporarily suspended the service in 2014 before resuming flights later that year.

The Rome–Caracas route is expected to support business travel and trade by improving access to a key Latin American market for Italian companies operating in Venezuela. It will also offer passengers connections through Rome Fiumicino to destinations across ITA Airways’ domestic and international network.
The airline said the service would meet demand from people traveling to visit relatives and maintain family and cultural ties between the two countries. It is also expected to support tourism in both directions, while strengthening Rome Fiumicino’s role as a gateway to Italy and Europe.
Flights are scheduled to begin on March 30, 2027, with three weekly departures in each direction. The airline has not specified flight times in the announcement.
ITA Airways is Italy’s flagship airline and is owned 59% by the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance and 41% by Deutsche Lufthansa AG. It operates passenger and cargo services and is a member of Star Alliance.
