This is the highest daily passenger number recorded so far at Italy's largest airport.
Airport operations also set a record. At security screening in Terminal 1, 2,000 passengers passed through in just half an hour, the highest figure ever recorded at the airport. A few days later, on Friday, August 21, another record was broken, with more than 1,100 incoming and outgoing flights handled at Fiumicino in 24 hours.
The company that manages Rome's airports attributes a significant portion of the growth to the capital's expansion of international connectivity and the opening of new intercontinental routes. Among other things, ITA Airways opened a route to Houston, and Alaska Airlines and Delta added routes to Seattle, along with Air Arabia's route to Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
The growth is not limited to passenger traffic. According to the data provided, cargo traffic at Fiumicino also increased by 14% in August compared to August 2025.
The data further strengthens Fiumicino's position as Italy's main air gateway and one of the most important aviation hubs in Europe, both for international tourism and for commercial aviation and logistics
