Air Europa carried more than 8 million passengers during the summer season, up more than 4.3% from the same period last year, as expanded capacity and new routes supported growth across most of its network.

The airline offered more than 9 million seats during the season, supported by additional frequencies on key routes and the expansion of its fleet. Its domestic, European, long-haul and African services all contributed to the increase.

Domestic routes within the Iberian Peninsula recorded passenger growth of more than 14%, helped by the launch of services to Oviedo and Seville. Including connections to Spain’s islands, the airline sold nearly 3.5 million seats on domestic routes.

European services also recorded growth, with passenger numbers rising by almost 5.6%. The increase followed the launch of a new Geneva route and the seasonal return of services to Bologna and Alghero. Air Europa also increased frequencies to Rome and Milan, with each destination reaching 21 weekly flights.

Long-Haul Routes and Africa Drive Growth

Air Europa carried more than 2.1 million passengers on its long-haul network, an increase of almost 3.8% compared with the previous year, according to the airline’s figures.

Latin America remained an important part of its long-haul operations. The carrier increased frequencies to Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic, while flights to Guayaquil, Ecuador, were established as a permanent service with four weekly frequencies.

Africa was another source of growth. The launch of the Madrid-Johannesburg route in June helped expand the airline’s presence on the continent, with passenger numbers to South Africa rising by almost 41% year over year. Air Europa also resumed seasonal flights to Tangier and increased frequencies to Tunis and Marrakech.

The airline attributed its summer performance to the combination of added capacity, expanded route options and fleet growth.

Air Europa also highlighted improvements to its ground and onboard services through its Air Europa ON service excellence initiative. The company said the initiative had introduced changes intended to improve the passenger experience throughout the journey.

The summer figures reflect growth across several parts of Air Europa’s network, from domestic connections in Spain to European city routes and long-haul services to Latin America and Africa.

New destinations and additional frequencies helped the airline accommodate more travelers during the peak season, while its fleet expansion supported the increase in available seats.
