Birmingham Airport recorded its busiest September on record, handling 1,386,372 passengers during the month, a 2.9% increase compared with September 2025.
Low-cost services were a key driver of the growth, with passenger numbers on these flights rising by 11.4% year on year. Dublin, Palma de Mallorca, Alicante, Amsterdam and Malaga were among the most popular destinations for travelers departing from the UK airport.
The record comes as Birmingham Airport moves from its busy summer period into the winter flight season, with new opportunities for winter breaks, festive city trips and ski holidays.
Matt Hazelwood, chief commercial officer of Birmingham Airport, said the September figures were encouraging as the airport began its winter flight programs.
He highlighted upcoming destinations including Reykjavik, Gdansk, Cairo, Rovaniemi, Frankfurt and Copenhagen, offering travelers options ranging from winter sun to seasonal city breaks and trips to snowy destinations.
Airport Wins Two Awards for Community and Sustainability
September also brought recognition for Birmingham Airport at the Solihull Chamber Awards, where it won two titles: Community Builder and Sustainability Trailblazer.
The awards recognized the airport’s community engagement work and progress toward its target of reaching net-zero emissions by 2033.
The airport also continued its fundraising activities for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity, its current charity partner. A 17-person team made up of airport colleagues and third-party partners took part in a charity dragon boat race, finishing third and raising more than £2,645.
The contribution brings the airport closer to its goal of raising £250,000 for the charity over the three-year partnership. The funds support the organization’s work with young patients and their families.
New Campaign Highlights Birmingham’s Local Identity
The airport also launched new advertising content during September, supporting its marketing activity across outdoor and digital channels.
The campaign draws on Birmingham’s metal music heritage while telling the story of the local airport. The new advertisements are appearing across multiple channels in the surrounding area.
With passenger numbers rising and the winter schedule getting underway, Birmingham Airport is looking to maintain momentum beyond the summer peak, while continuing its work on sustainability and community partnerships.
