Hilton and Scandic Hotels Group have signed a multi-year strategic agreement to expand Hilton’s brands across Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, with a new 284-room hotel planned near Copenhagen Airport.

The agreement will see the companies work together to identify development opportunities across the four Nordic markets. Hilton will bring its international brands and global commercial reach, while Scandic will contribute its regional presence and hotel operating expertise.

Independent Projects

The deal does not involve converting Scandic’s existing hotel portfolio wholesale to Hilton brands. Instead, the companies will pursue individual projects as opportunities arise.

Their first announced development under the agreement is a Hilton Hotels & Resorts property at Scanport, near Copenhagen Airport. Scandic has signed to operate the hotel under a franchise agreement with Hilton.

The 284-room hotel is expected to open in 2029. Plans include a restaurant and bar, meeting and event facilities, wellness amenities, a fitness area and an executive lounge overlooking the Öresund Strait. Construction is due to begin once the remaining conditions have been met.

The location places the hotel close to Copenhagen Airport, one of Scandinavia’s main aviation hubs, and positions it to serve both business and leisure travelers.

Hilton and Scandic already have a long-standing relationship spanning more than 20 years. Three Hilton Hotels & Resorts properties currently operate in Helsinki under the partnership: Hilton Helsinki Airport, Hilton Helsinki Strand and Hilton Helsinki Kalastajatorppa.

Hilton Helsinki Airport is also due to undergo a phased refurbishment to modernize guest-facing areas.

The companies said they will announce new benefits for members of Hilton Honors and Scandic Friends at a later date. Their stated aim is to improve access to each other’s travel networks and destinations.

Hilton President and CEO Chris Nassetta said the agreement provides a route to expanding the company’s brands across four important markets. Scandic President and CEO Jens Mathiesen said the partnership builds on the companies’ experience operating Hilton hotels in Helsinki and fits Scandic’s long-term growth strategy.

The expansion comes as tourism remains strong across the Nordic region. The companies cited more than 70 million guest nights in Sweden in 2025, around 68 million in Denmark, more than 40 million in Norway and over 23 million in Finland.

International visitors, including travelers from the United States and major European markets, have contributed to demand for the region’s nature-based holidays, outdoor activities and cooler-climate destinations.
