The aviation industry in Lithuania continues to show growth figures, even after the end of the busy summer travel season.

According to official data published by the Lithuanian Airports Authority (LTOU), more than 711 thousand passengers passed through the country's three international airports in September 2026, a 6% increase from September 2025.

Alongside the increase in passenger traffic, air cargo activity also jumped significantly, indicating expansion at airports beyond tourism and business travel.

Vilnius International Airport, the country's main airport, recorded the most significant growth in passenger traffic.

In September, about 530,000 passengers passed through, an 8% increase from the same month last year.

Kaunas Airport handled approximately 145,000 passengers, while Palanga Airport recorded approximately 36,000 passengers.

A total of approximately 5,600 flights were operated at the three airports during the month. The three leading destinations by passenger numbers on scheduled routes were Copenhagen, London, and Warsaw.

One of the most notable figures in the official report concerns air cargo traffic. In September, almost 2,000 tons of cargo passed through Lithuanian airports, an 18% increase from about 1,650 tons in September 2025.

Compared to September 2019, before the COVID-19 crisis, this is a 27% increase in cargo volume.

The new figures follow a particularly strong summer season for the Lithuanian aviation industry. According to the Airports Authority, nearly 2.3 million passengers passed through the country's airports in the three summer months, and more than 17,000 flights were operated.

Even after the season ended, passenger traffic and cargo activity continued to grow. September data illustrates Lithuania's strengthening in the European aviation network and the continued growth in its airport activity.
