Air Canada and United Airlines are expanding operations between Canada and the United States by summer 2027, adding new routes and increasing flight availability on several routes. The companies announced the expansion of their commercial cooperation.
Air Canada will launch three new routes: Toronto to Louisville, Kentucky; Montreal to Indianapolis; and Edmonton to Newark, New York. The Toronto-Louisville route is expected to launch on April 28, 2027, with a frequency of up to one daily flight.
The Montreal-Indianapolis and Edmonton-Newark routes will open on June 1, and will operate daily and with a frequency of four weekly flights, respectively, during the planned season.
In addition, Air Canada will increase capacity on the Edmonton to San Francisco route by operating the larger Airbus A220 aircraft on the route.
United is also expanding its operations in Canada. The company will launch a seasonal flight from Newark to St. John's, Newfoundland, add flights from Denver to Ottawa and Quebec City, increase the frequency of flights between Washington, D.C. and Quebec City, and increase the number of daily seats on the Denver-Winnipeg route by 65%.
Five Years of Collaboration, 20 New Lines
The expansion is based on the joint operations agreement between the companies, which was signed in 2022.
Since its inception, 20 new routes have been opened between Canada and the US, and according to the companies, more than 4.3 million passengers have flown as part of the collaboration.
The agreement provides passengers with access to more than 1,200 flight connections, along with schedule coordination and commercial benefits. The companies have now agreed to renew and expand the agreement, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
