A magnitude 7.0 earthquake was recorded in China on October 22, 2026, according to Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). The earthquake occurred at 14:33 UTC, at a reported depth of just 5 kilometers, making it a shallow earthquake.

The INGV-Rome Seismic Room located the event at coordinates 32.3367° north and 93.8768° east. The reported local time in the earthquake area was 8:33 p.m.

The earthquake struck an area of western China near the Tibetan Plateau, a region known for seismic activity. Its shallow depth means shaking could be strong near the epicenter, although the actual effects depend on local conditions and the earthquake’s final measured parameters.
