The planned full weekend closure of the M42 motorway near Birmingham Airport that we reported on earlier this week has been postponed because strong winds are expected to make construction work unsafe.

National Highways: West Midlands announced the change, saying the weather would make it unsafe to operate the cranes and heavy machinery needed for the work.

Birmingham Airport shared the update on social media, directing travelers to the latest information from National Highways.

The closure had been scheduled for this weekend, but no replacement dates have been confirmed. National Highways said it would provide further updates once the revised arrangements are confirmed.

The M42 is an important route for passengers traveling to Birmingham Airport, as well as for drivers moving around the West Midlands.
