A fire at a restaurant in Terminal C North at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston prompted the temporary relocation of passengers and the closure of the affected area on October 27, 2026.
The Houston Fire Department responded to the incident at Ember restaurant at approximately 4:20 p.m. local time, according to the airport. Passengers in the immediate area were moved as a precaution.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze at around 5:20 p.m. No injuries were reported. The Houston Fire Department’s Arson Bureau is investigating the cause of the fire.
In an update issued at 7:20 p.m., the airport said firefighters had completed their work, but Terminal C North remained temporarily closed for precautionary measures and cleanup. Terminal C South and all other terminals continued operating.
The airport reported that flights were operating normally in other terminals and that no cancellations had been reported in its earlier update.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport is working with United Airlines to accommodate flights scheduled for October 28. Some United flights may depart from gates different from those originally assigned.
Passengers flying with United have been advised to check their terminal and gate information on the morning of departure before heading to the airport. Travelers are also encouraged to confirm flight details directly with their airline, as arrangements may change while the affected area remains closed.
Earlier this month, we reported on United Airlines's new terminal at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. The complex includes 22 boarding gates, restaurants, and an art gallery.
