Wizz Air is preparing for another phase of expansion in Spain. According to the company's published plan, a new operational base in Valencia is expected to begin operations tomorrow, November 2, 2026, and the base in Madrid on Tuesday, November 3.
The move is intended to deepen the company's presence in the country by deploying local aircraft and crews and expanding the flight network.
The airline's decision is part of an expansion that includes opening 35 new routes to and from Spain.
In 2025, the company offered about 10 million seats on routes to and from Spain, and the cumulative number of passengers flown in the Spanish market since the beginning of its operations exceeded 50 million.
While the previous expansion focused on increasing the number of routes and seats, the new bases are intended to provide the company with a local operational infrastructure for continued growth.
According to a Wizz Air announcement, the plan includes stationing four aircraft at the two bases and recruiting more than 150 local aircrew and pilots. The company notes that stationing the aircraft in Spain will allow it to increase its flight offering and strengthen its operational flexibility.
The company plans to permanently base two aircraft in Valencia. Valencia confirmed in its announcement that the base is expected to create more than 80 local jobs and strengthen the city's place in the company's international network.
According to the route plan published by Low Cost in August, routes from Valencia to Asturias, Santiago de Compostela, Santander and Brasov in Romania will begin in early November. Later, on December 14, daily flights from Valencia to Bilbao, Palma de Mallorca and Naples are planned to begin.
The expansion doesn't stop with additional destinations. Under the same plan, starting November 3, flights from Madrid to London Luton and Milan Malpensa are expected to increase from seven to 14 weekly flights on each route. The route from Madrid to Rome Fiumicino is expected to increase from 14 to 21 flights per week. Between Valencia and Milan Malpensa, the frequency is planned to double from seven to 14 weekly flights starting November 2.
This adds another element to the network expansion process in Spain: aircraft and crews that will be stationed in the country and will support both domestic and international flights. Wizz Air defines the move as one of its significant investments in Spain and as a basis for continued expansion in the coming years.
