British Airways and Mexican low-cost airline Viva have announced a new codeshare agreement that will expand travel options between the UK, Europe and Mexico, giving passengers access to 13 additional Mexican destinations through connections in Mexico City and Cancun.

Under the agreement, British Airways customers will be able to book connecting flights operated by Viva under a British Airways flight code. The new options will be available through the British Airways website, allowing passengers to purchase their entire journey in a single transaction.

Flights will connect through Viva's hubs at Mexico City International Airport (MEX) and Cancun International Airport (CUN), providing British Airways passengers travelling from London and other European cities with more ways to reach destinations across Mexico.

Avios and Tier Points for British Airways Club Members

The agreement also brings additional benefits for members of The British Airways Club. Passengers travelling on eligible codeshare flights operated by Viva will be able to earn Avios and tier points.

For travellers departing from Mexico, the partnership will provide connections through London to British Airways' wider international network, which serves more than 200 destinations worldwide.

British Airways says Mexico has been an important part of its network for more than 60 years. Neil Chernoff, the airline's Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, said the agreement would combine Viva's domestic network with British Airways' international connections.

Viva's Executive Vice President and Chief Planning and Alliances Officer, Javier Suarez, said the partnership would make it easier for passengers to connect between the two airlines' networks through Mexico City and Cancun, with the convenience of booking on a single ticket.

The agreement expands Viva's role in connecting international passengers with destinations beyond Mexico's main tourist gateways.

Viva has carried more than 180 million passengers during its 20-year history. The airline operates a fleet of 110 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft and serves more than 60 destinations across Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Costa Rica and Cuba.

The airline also promotes its Flex-SÍ-bility offering, which provides passengers with options to change flights, modify or transfer tickets and adjust their travel plans.

Codeshare flights are available to book now through ba.com, with travel beginning on March 28, 2027.
