Hyatt Hotels Corporation is expanding its presence in Indonesia with plans for a new island resort near Batam, Indonesia, introducing the Hyatt Regency brand to the Riau Islands for the first time.

The hotel group and Indonesian developer PT Citra Buana Prakarsa have signed a management agreement for Hyatt Regency Kapal Besar Island Resort, a planned 140-room property on private Pulau Kapal Besar. The resort is expected to open in 2031.

Located near Batam, the island offers a secluded setting within relatively easy reach of Singapore. Guests traveling from Singapore's HarbourFront are expected to reach the resort in approximately 50 minutes. The journey will include access via Nirup Island, where the nearest immigration checkpoint is located, followed by a short ferry transfer to Pulau Kapal Besar.

The development will take advantage of the island's natural surroundings, including a tranquil lake, mangroves and coastal landscapes. Plans call for 140 rooms and suites, alongside a spa, fitness center and outdoor swimming pools.

Families will also have access to a Camp Hyatt kids' club, featuring indoor and outdoor facilities and an entertainment center. The resort is being designed to accommodate different types of stays, from family holidays and leisure escapes to weddings, celebrations and group events.

"We are proud to welcome Hyatt to Pulau Kapal Besar as we embark on this new alliance," said Tommy Ho, Director of Business Development at PT Citra Buana Prakarsa. He described the Hyatt Regency brand as a natural fit for the company's ambition to develop high-end island destinations within a short journey of Singapore.

Bastien Touzeau, Hyatt's Regional Vice President of Growth for Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, said the island's natural setting and accessibility from Singapore make it an attractive addition to the region's leisure offering.

The project is part of a wider development strategy by PT Citra Buana Prakarsa, which already operates resorts on Nirup Island. The company also plans to develop two neighboring islands, Pulau Layang and Pulau Kapal Kecil, as part of a broader cluster of island destinations.

The new Hyatt Regency property will add another option to the growing leisure tourism offering around Batam, a popular getaway destination for travelers from Singapore.
