Delta Expands Its Route Map. For the first time in Delta's history, SkyMiles members and Delta employees were allowed to decide which new European destination should join the airline's network next. They were given three choices: Sardinia, Malta, and Ibiza.

The 150,000 cast votes over five days during the unique Route Race were split between Italy’s Sardinia, chosen by SkyMiles members, and Malta, preferred by the airline’s employees. The airline decided to include both islands on its map in the summer of 2026.

Delta Senior Vice President, Paul Baldoni: "We are continuing to add more options and unique destinations for SkyMiles members with new flights to Malta and Sardinia, two destinations we haven't flown to before. Now we can say that our network was built not only for our most loyal customers but by them."

Delta will add the new Mediterranean routes from JFK, with flights to Sardinia starting May 20, 2026, and Malta on June 7, 2026. Travelers will get a chance to enjoy lie-flat seats in Delta One, chef-curated meals, Missoni amenities, champagne, and free Wi-Fi, for a truly special trip.

Delta Air Lines recently renewed its flights to Israel, with a daily flight between Ben Gurion Airport and New York JFK. Its competitor on the Israel route, United, recently announced it will soon open routes to both Chicago and Washington, DC.
