Wizz Air inaugurates a new base in Yerevan, establishing itself as a leader in the Armenian market.
After making recent history with its pioneering AI-driven ad campaign and reaching the 10 million passenger milestone in Larnaca, the Irish low-cost airline celebrated its new base at Zvartnots Airport in Yerevan. The event, held on Wednesday, October 2, marked the opening of their 34th base worldwide.
As part of the expansion, two Airbus A321neo aircraft will be stationed at the airport, operating eight new direct routes to the following European cities: Prague, Hamburg, Paphos, Paris, Naples, Bari, Bucharest, and Memmingen. Additionally, the company will increase the frequency of flights on the Dortmund route and launch another route from Shirak Airport to Larnaca.
This move positions Wizz Air as the leader in the Armenian aviation market, with a total of 16 routes to nine countries and a goal to transport over 1.2 million passengers this year. The initiative is also projected to generate more than 800 new jobs, improve the country's international connectivity, and support the overall growth of the local tourism industry.
