The best tourism brands from across Europe were honored at the World Travel Awards ceremony held in Sardinia, Italy.
The biggest award of the evening, "Leading Destination in Europe," went to Portugal. The Portuguese archipelago of Madeira, also located in the Atlantic Ocean, was named "Leading Island in Europe. " Huesca La Magia in Spain was named "Leading Adventure Destination in Europe" while the Greek region of East Macedonia and Thrace was named "Leading Emerging Destination in Europe."

In the aviation sector, Lufthansa was named "Europe's Leading Airline", while Zurich Airport was named "Europe's Leading Airport".

SWISS has won a double title: "Leading Business Class on a European Airline " and "Leading First Class on a European Airline." The leading airport lounge in Europe is THE LOFT by Brussels Airlines and Lexus.

In the hospitality sector, the title of "Leading Hotel in Europe" was won by Çırağan Palace Kempinski in Istanbul.
Not far away, Greece's Sani Resort was named "Europe's Leading Family Resort", while Ikos Odisia was named "Europe's Leading All-Inclusive Resort". Kaizen Hotels received the title for "Europe's Leading Independent Hotel Group". In terms of leading "green" hotels, Italy's Naturhotel Leitlhof came out with flying colors.
Cannes, unsurprisingly, was named “Europe’s Leading Festival and Events Destination,” while Madrid received the “Europe’s Leading Conference Destination” title. Batumi was praised as “Europe’s Leading All-Year Tourist Destination.”
