Starting Sunday, December 14, 2025, as promised throughout the year, passengers from Berlin and the surrounding area will benefit from faster, more frequent service between Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER) and the city center.

Berlin's Airport Express (FEX) train line will shift to its new route via the upgraded Dresdner Bahn, aiming to significantly shorten travel times and increase rush-hour train service.

The train will depart up to four times an hour from the Hauptbahnhof main train station, with stops at Potsdamer Platz and Südkreuz, and will reach the airport in just 23 minutes.

Combined with the hourly RE20 regional train, the line will offer up to five trains per hour between BER and the city's two main train stations. In addition, cities in northern and central Germany will benefit from significantly shorter travel times thanks to the new connection.

At the same time, a new S-Bahn line, the S85, will connect the airport with the northeast of the city every 20 minutes. On weekends, the line will continue to Pankow, and on weekdays to Frohnhausen. The S9 line will continue to operate every 20 minutes via the city railway to Spandau.

Other large cities will also be connected. The Intercity line between Chemnitz/Dresden and Rostock will once again stop directly at BER. The journey from Dresden will be about an hour and a half long, and the line will operate up to seven times a day. Passengers from Rostock will arrive in about two and a half hours. Passengers from Hamburg are also expected to benefit from a saving of about 30 minutes after the completion of work on the Hamburg-Berlin line.
