With Christmas nearing in, Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is preparing for significant traffic congestion. According to airport management estimates, around 1.1 million passengers are expected to pass through the airport between December 19, 2025, and January 4, 2026, a similar number to that recorded during the holiday period last year.
During the first weekend of the Christmas holiday, between December 19 and 21, approximately 220,000 passengers will visit BER. Friday, December 19, is expected to be the busiest day with approximately 79,000 passengers. Throughout the entire holiday period, the airport will supervise approximately 7,300 takeoffs and landings in total.
The most popular destinations for passengers from Berlin Airport are Spain, the UK, Italy, Turkey, and France. Around 60 airlines will operate flights from BER to 124 destinations in 49 countries.
In addition to operational preparations, the airport is offering a festive experience for passengers. Terminal shops will offer a selection of last-minute gifts, with many open until 7pm on Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and bank holidays. Duty-free shops will remain open until the last departure. Cafes, bars, and restaurants will operate according to normal opening hours or according to flight schedules.
During the holidays, passengers will also be able to enjoy special holiday shows that will take place at the airport.
Berlin Airport BER As we reported recently, Berlin Airport was also upgraded this week to include a faster train than before, connecting central Berlin with BER in 23 minutes. The line operates with a frequency of up to five trains per hour.
The FEX train also shortens travel times between the airport and other destinations throughout Germany.
