Low-cost airline Wizz Air continues to expand its operations in Italy with the opening of a new route between Rome Fiumicino and Chania, Crete, for the 2026 summer season.
The new line will operate twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, with the first flight expected to depart on June 29, 2026. Ticket sales recently opened on the company's website and app, with prices starting at 46 euros, according to the company.
Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, the airline's Corporate Communications Manager, commented on the news: "The addition of Chania to our network is yet another tangible proof of how central Rome Fiumicino is to Wizz Air’s global vision. We are not just launching a flight; we are opening a new, accessible bridge to the heart of the Aegean Sea, bringing Greece even closer. Our close cooperation with Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) allows us to continuously evolve, turning Fiumicino into the base of a modern and affordable travel experience. Italy is the market where we carry the highest number of passengers across our entire network, and Rome is the driving force behind this achievement. We are ready to take thousands of passengers to discover the treasures of Crete and, at the same time, to make Greek travellers fall in love with the timeless charm of our Capital. Let’s get ready for an extraordinary summer: Let’s WIZZ, Rome!"
Chania is considered one of the most sought-after destinations in the Mediterranean, with a historic Venetian port, local markets, wild nature, and beaches with clear waters. The new line is designed to meet the growing demand for holidays in Greece and offer passengers from Italy a direct and accessible connection to a major holiday destination.
Wizz Air currently operates a total of 72 routes from Rome to 29 countries and employs over 570 people at its base in Rome.
