Munich Airport is on track to establish itself as one of Europe's leading hubs, ending 2025 with impressive growth.

Last year, no less than 43.4 million passengers passed through Germany's second-largest airport after Frankfurt, marking a 4.4% (1.8 million) increase over 2024. The number places Munich at the top of the absolute passenger growth chart among airports in German-speaking countries over the past year.

The airport also recorded a 3% increase in aircraft movements, with approximately 337,000 takeoffs and landings, while the average seat occupancy rate reached 80.9%, indicating ongoing demand.

Traffic to destinations in Europe and the Mediterranean region increased by 4.3%, while traffic on long-haul flights jumped by 8.5% compared to 2024. The airport's network expanded to 232 destinations in Germany and 71 other countries worldwide, with 96 airlines operating regular services, including five cargo carriers.

On Time Rate Improvements

Alongside the increase in passenger traffic, punctuality has improved significantly. The on-time rate has increased to more than 75%, placing Munich Airport among the three most punctual major airports in Europe.

The improvement is attributed, among other things, to the implementation of advanced CT scanners at the security checkpoints. Since April 2025, Terminal 2 has operated exclusively with the new technology, enabling 95% of passengers to pass through security screening in under 10 minutes. By the start of the 2026 summer vacation, additional screening lines in Terminal 1 are expected to adopt this technology, as part of an investment of over €45 million by the state of Bavaria.
