Serious incident at Barcelona Airport. Turkish Airlines flight TK1853, which reached the city's El Prat Airport yesterday (January 16, 2026) at around 11:00, was immediately taken to a remote position away from the terminal in the northeastern part of the airport post-landing.

According to news and social media reports, later confirmed by the airline, a bomb threat was discovered on the plane shortly before landing. According to several reports, the crew discovered that a passenger had created an internet hotspot during the flight, and the name of the hotspot included a bomb threat.

The airline and airport took the matter seriously and reported it to the authorities, who, as mentioned, activated emergency procedures and moved the plane away from other parts of the airport. Shortly after landing, it was revealed that it was a hoax, and the threat was removed.

Turkish Airlines' Senior Vice President Communications, Yahya ÜSTÜN, posted on X: "Following the incident on our TK1853 flight, the necessary security searches were conducted by the relevant country's competent authorities, and no irregularities were found. Efforts have been initiated to identify the passenger in question and to carry out the legal process. Our aircraft's return flight will be carried out after the completion of passenger boarding".
