An extreme cold wave is expected across Lithuania and the Baltic region over the weekend and the first few days of next week.

According to the local meteorological service, on Thursday night and Friday morning, temperatures in Lithuania may drop between minus 20 and minus 24 degrees in central areas and in Region A, while at the peak of the cold wave in the coming nights, the cold is expected to reach minus 25 degrees and even minus 30 degrees in some places.

For the first time since 2021, the temperature is expected to drop below minus 30. In 2003, even lower temperatures of minus 35 degrees were measured in the country.

At the same time, in England, meteorological authorities issued a yellow warning for rain for several areas in the south and west of the country.

According to the Met Office, heavy rain is expected to hit Cornwall on Thursday afternoon and spread eastwards, potentially causing flooding and affecting public transport. 10-15mm of rain is expected across the country, with some areas in the south seeing 20-25mm.

Travelers and drivers are urged to drive with caution, check road and public transportation conditions, and plan alternate routes if necessary. In addition, it is recommended to prepare an emergency plan in case of flooding if their properties are in at-risk areas.

In addition, cloudy and cold weather is expected in Scotland, with snow in the hills and dense fog at the beginning of the day, which will only clear up later.
