A strong start to the year at Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos). According to summary data for January 2026international flights increased by 7.1% compared to January 2025, from 10,439 passengers to 11,179.

Domestic flights saw an even more noteworthy increase: 7.6% more than in the same month last year, from 6,107 passengers to 6,569 passengers.

Combining international and domestic flights, this amounts to 17,748 passengers, compared to 16,546 passengers in the same month last year, or an average increase of 7.3%.

As we have reported in recent days, despite the significant increase in passenger numbers and the all-time record set last year, Athens Airport is facing many technical difficulties. The systems upgrade program has already begun, and the airport hopes for regular and normal operations during the main tourist season in the coming months.
