The American mission (Embassy and Consulate) in the United Arab Emirates has published a call for American citizens residing in the country to consider leaving if they believe they can do so safely.

The X announcement also informed that some flights are currently departing from international airports in the UAE. The land borders with Oman and Saudi Arabia are also open at this time, but there are reports of congestion.

"For those who cannot or choose not to depart, we continue to recommend that they shelter in place at their residence, hotel, or other structure, staying away from windows, and leaving only as necessary to obtain food, water, medications, and other essential items. For Americans not currently in the UAE, we strongly recommend that they reconsider any plans to travel to or transit through the UAE."

Yesterday, March 3, 2026, the United States Department of State ordered non-essential U.S. government employees to leave the United Arab Emirates due to the threat of armed conflict. The U.S. Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the U.S. Consulate in Dubai are closed, and services are not provided at these facilities until further notice.

For Americans who do not have a valid U.S. passport, passport services will be arranged as soon as the security situation allows. All other in-person consular services are currently unavailable, including visa services for foreign nationals. “For foreign passports we are currently holding, we will arrange to make them available once security permits.  For now, please do not approach the embassy or consulate for any reason.  In case of an emergency, use the contact information below to reach us.”

More importantly, the delegation is announcing this morning a number of steps that must be taken, and they are also relevant to Israelis stranded in the United Arab Emirates:

- Contact the airline to check flight availability.

- Keep your cell phone charged and pre-programmed with local and international emergency numbers.

- Stay in touch with family and friends to let them know about your condition.

- Keep travel documents easily accessible.

If you hear a loud explosion, or if alarms or phone alerts go off, seek shelter immediately. If you are in a home or building, go to the lowest floor with the fewest exterior walls, windows, and openings. Close doors and sit near an interior wall away from windows and openings.

If you are outside, immediately seek shelter in a sheltered structure. If that is not possible, lie down and cover your head with your hands.

Be aware that even if a missile or drone is shot down, falling interceptor parts pose a significant risk.

After the attack, stay away from all debris and follow major news for official guidance. Avoid areas near military installations, government buildings, or other potential targets.

Avoid standing near windows or glass doors. Avoid leaving the house unnecessarily when there are activity alerts.
