Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has announced a partnership with Google to launch a new service to help locate lost luggage. As part of the move, passengers will be able to securely share the real-time location of their luggage with the airline's teams.

The new solution is based on the Share Item Location function in the Find Hub app, which allows travelers to share the location of a tag or compatible accessory attached to a suitcase in the event that it does not reach its destination.

Massimo Pascotto, Vice President of Customer Digital Solutions at SAS, said: We know how important it is for our customers to feel informed and supported throughout their journey. By integrating Find Hub’s secure location sharing capability into our processes, we are giving travelers greater peace of mind and enabling our teams to resolve baggage issues faster."

The Find Hub app allows passengers to see the location of their tagged items on a map. In the event of a lost suitcase, the passenger can create a secure, temporary link that includes the luggage's location and share it with SAS representatives through the company's self-reporting system.

The information allows the company's teams to locate the suitcase more accurately and quickly, thereby speeding up the return to the passenger. The sharing can be paused at any time, and all information is transmitted encrypted.

SAS notes that the company is collaborating with other aviation industry partners to expand the use of the technology. Several international airlines already enable location sharing via Find Hub as part of the baggage tracking process, and additional companies are expected to join in the future.

The move is part of SAS's digital strategy, which aims to improve service reliability, reduce the stress associated with lost luggage, and upgrade the passenger experience throughout the entire flight journey.
