After 8 Years and 66,000 Flights: Wizz Air Closes Major Base in Europe

After flying about 13 million passengers across more than 66,000 operated flights. popular low-cost airline decides to close its base in Vienna

The low-cost airline Wizz Air announced its last flight took off from Vienna Airport on March 16, ending almost eight years of the company's established operations in the Austrian capital.

The company's first flight from Vienna took off on April 27, 2018, to Gdansk. Since then, operations in the city have become one of the company's significant hubs in Central Europe, with dozens of routes to destinations across the continent and the Middle East.

During the years of operation in Vienna, the company recorded significant figures:

- Approximately 13 million passengers were flown

- More than 66 thousand flights were operated

- 73 different lines to 35 countries

Among the prominent destinations operating from the Vienna base were London, Rome, Barcelona and Tel Aviv.

The company's last flight from its base in Vienna to London, Luton marked the end of this chapter in the company's operations in the city.

The company thanked the customers, partners, and teams that have operated in Vienna over the years, and emphasized that despite the end of its operations based in the city, the company will continue to offer an extensive network of routes in the region through nearby airports such as Bratislava and Budapest.
