Bratislava Airport (BTS) has announced big changes, including its first-ever domestic route, over 10 new global destinations, and additional based aircraft.
Wizz Air has placed BTS at the center of its next growth chapter at an unprecedented scale. At a press conference in the Slovak capital, the airline announced:
- First domestic route from the base: Bratislava-Košice, launching November 21, 2025.
- 11 new international destinations from Bratislava.
- Two additional based aircraft (bringing the base to 4).
- A 27-route network, the biggest in BTS history.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said the expansion proves that a state-run asset can thrive with the right leadership. Transport Minister Jozef Raz formally handed the operating agreement to Wizz Air.
Wizz Air CEO József Váradi believes “Wizz Air will be a great success story for Slovakia, and Slovakia will be a great success story for Wizz Air.”
Airport CEO Dušan Novota said the team is ready to manage growth smoothly and safely, targeting 3-4 million passengers next year, marking an all-time record for the airport.
More routes and higher frequencies translate to greater flexibility, sharper fares, and easy same-day access to Vienna (~1 hour), the Czech Republic, and wider Central Europe.
Larnaca as a year-round node: The new Larnaca-Bratislava service operates twice weekly (Mon, Fri) with a summer boost to three, reinforcing Larnaca’s role as a practical connector between Israel/the Middle East and Central Europe.
Trip planning gets easier: Expect more capacity, more departure windows, viable open-jaw itineraries (arrive Bratislava / depart Vienna), and continuing fare competition on select dates.
The bigger picture
Bratislava is cementing its status as a prime city-break hub thanks to efficient airport operations, competitive pricing, and straightforward rail/coach links across the region. With based aircraft, a new domestic route, and 11 international additions, Wizz Air is building the critical mass that turns expansion plans into everyday reality at BTS, benefiting Slovak travelers and the broader Israel-Cyprus-Central Europe corridor alike.
