Amid Rising Fuel Prices: United Airlines Increases Checked Bag Fee by $10

United Airline makes the announcement: for tickets bought on and after April 3, 2026, "fees will go up by $10 for your first and second checked bag and by $50 for your third checked bag in most markets"

Last week, we reported on UK airline Skybus' decision to abruptly end its London Gatwick–Newquay route two months earlier than originally established, amid the rising fuel costs and weak demand.

One week ago, JetBlue made a similarly dramatic decision to increase its checked luggage fees by $4 for the first bag on a domestic flight during off-season and by $9 to $59 during peak season for most economy passengers.

Now, it is time for United Airlines to follow suit with a similar decision. The airline announced that, "for tickets purchased on or after April 3, 2026, fees will go up by $10 for your first and second checked bag and by $50 for your third checked bag in most markets."

For a clearer idea of what you will pay, the company advises using their baggage fee calculator.

As always, additional fees will apply for extra checked bags or any bags that go over the standard limits.
